How to order a laptop for a young person - Get a written quote from a computer supplier (excluding VAT, as the Council is exempt)
- You will need a standard laptop, suitable for studying with
- Student Microsoft Office Licence
- Microsoft Office installed on the laptop
- Internet Security Software (such as Norton) installed on the laptop
- Laptop bag
- DO NOT TELL THE SUPPLIER HOW MUCH YOU HAVE TO SPEND OR THEY WILL JUST SEND YOU A QUOTE FOR THAT AMOUNT!
- If you are satisfied with the quote, ask your I-procurement administrator to raise an order.
- Personal Education Allowances have now ended, but you can still apply to the Resource Management Panel for help.
- In addition, you could ask the child's school what they are spending their Pupil Premium Grant on, and whether they would be prepared to fund a laptop.
- The Government has given schools £430 this year(2011) for each looked after child and child on free school meals. It is likely to be more in 2012. This is to improve their educational outcomes, and though schools can decide how to spend this money, the Virtual School has issued guidance to schools, saying that money for LAC should be targeted at individual children, rather than all children in the school. The guidance is in line with what the Government is saying.
