If you are looking after children from birth to 4 years old, watch out for free books from Bookstart. Two packs of books are given out via clinics and health centres: one at the baby check at 8 to 9 months, and the toddler pack at the 2 year health check.
 
Treasure chests are for those children who reach the age of three within the academic year. These are distributed through childcare settings – nursery places in schools, private nurseries, parents and toddler groups. Children who don't attend one of these settings can obtain a treasure chest through the public library.
 
The idea is to get the whole family involved in reading and storytelling.

Bookstart Book Crawl is a free, fun idea for children aged 0-4.
 
Once children have joined the library you can pick up a Book Crawl collector's card.
 
Bring the children to join the library, borrow some books and get a sticker. They will get a sticker every time they visit the library.
 
After collecting four stickers the children will get a beautiful certificate designed by a children's illustrator. There are ten certificates to collect.
 
Libraries have lots of books just right for babies, toddlers and pre-school children. Bring them to join Bookstart Book Crawl and help them to start the reading journey of a lifetime.

George's Marvellous Medicine

I like George's Marvellous Medicine (Roald Dahl) because it makes me laugh a lot. I like the bit where Grandma grows!

The Jungle Book

1. The book is about a boy called Mowgli, who lives in the jungle with lots of wild animals.
2. His best friend is a bear called Baloo.
3. His other friend is a panther called Bagheera.
4. Not all of the animals in the jungle like Mowgli, Kaa is a snake who tries to hurt him.
5. One day the boy finds a village with people in it and he meets a girl.

Both these books are for children aged 3-10ish:

and
The story of the little mole who knew it was none of his business! by Werner Holzwarth/Wolf Erlbruch (this book is about poo but is very funny!)
