Level 2 in reading, writing and mathematics at Key Stage 1;
Level 4 in english and mathematics at Key Stage 2:
Level 5 in english and mathematics at Key Stage 3;
5 A* - C grades at GCSE, or equivalent, including english and maths.
If there is a risk that a child you are caring for may not reach the above standard, schools should be able to provide extra tuition from the Pupil Premium Grant. This replaces Personal Education Allowances. Speak to the school or the child's social worker.

All Bolton school children will automatically be enrolled on the Smart Card Scheme at school. Looked After Children and Young People will be able to take part in activities at council leisure centres free of charge, and obtain a 70% discount on lessons. If you are caring for children who are not attending school, please contact corporateparentingteam@bolton.gov.uk with the name and date of birth of the child. A letter and application form will be sent to you. You will then need to take the child, letter and application form to the Contact Centre in the Town Hall for a photo to be taken and the form to be processed. No other ID is needed.
Please note that Smart Cards are for leisure activities and money can be put on the card to spend at several outlets in Bolton. Library cards are now separate and you will need to go to your local library to join.  Try a new activity in Great Lever with Bolton Literacy Trust...Computer classes, improving your literacy, arts and crafts, cookery, learn to use the internet...all in a comfortable, friendly environment and all for free!
